Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3C Committees:
- Transparency and Public Processes Committee – Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3C started a Transparency and Public Processes Committee in 2021 and it is tasked with the following: Evaluating Commission bylaws to ensure compliance with applicable D.C. law; Drafting recommendations to the Commission for amendments to the Commission’s bylaws; Proposing Commission rules to ensure the Commission employs procedures that promote robust public engagement and transparency.
- Safe Sustainable and Equitable Transportation Committee – Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3C established its Safe, Sustainable, and Equitable Transportation Committee in 2021. The committee is tasked with: 1) Engaging the community to get input and drive consensus towards decisions about transportation infrastructure; 2) Drafting recommendations to the Commission for advocacy of transportation issues; 3) Serving as a bridge between the community and Commission to promote engagement and transparency.
- Community Engagement and Grants Committee – Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3C has a modest budget to make small grants to community groups for neighborhood projects. The general intent of small grants is to stimulate activities that improve the welfare of the residents and those who work in the ANC3C community. Only non-profit organizations are eligible. See grant guidelines for additional information. The Community Engagement & Grants Committee reviews grant applications when they are received in a public meeting. The Committee does not decide grants, only the full ANC approves grants and budget expenditures.
- Planning Zoning Housing and Economic Development Committee – Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3C established its Planning, Zoning, Housing, & Economic Development Committee in 2023. The committee is tasked with: Identifying appropriate issues related to job creation and business development, including housing development and policy as well as individual project development; Working with developers, project proponents, and community based organizations to encourage the inclusion of affordable housing, multi-family units, and community amenities wherever possible; Making recommendations to the Commission regarding requests for zoning relief; Making recommendations to the Commission regarding Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) applications for commercial, multifamily, and institutional projects; Researching and reporting findings and provide recommendations to the Commission; Tracking and notifying the Commission of all relevant hearing dates; and Be the primary interface between the ANC and the area Main Street organizations.
- Residential Historic Preservation Review Committee -Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3C established its Residential Historic Preservation Review Committee in 2023. The committee is tasked with: 1) Reviewing HPRB applications and issues directly related to historic preservation of single-family residences; 2) Drafting resolutions for reviewed HPRB applications of single-family residential properties; 3) Makes recommendations to the Commission on historic preservation matters regarding HPRB applications of single-family residential properties.
- Environmental Justice Committee – Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3C established its Environmental Justice Committee in 2023. It acts as a platform for public education and discussion about environmental justice by drawing on the expertise and experience of community members with policies relevant to climate, energy, nature, waste, and other pertinent topics. The committee also helps the community understand relevant District policies and public services, such as composting and recycling programs.
- Public Safety Committee – The Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3C Public Safety Committee focuses on addressing public safety issues including crime prevention, emergency preparedness, and collaboration with local law enforcement agencies. The committee works to gather input from residents, analyze safety concerns, and develop strategies to enhance the overall safety and security of the neighborhood. Meetings typically involve discussions on current safety issues, updates from MPD and other law enforcement or criminal justices agencies, and planning community safety initiatives.
