- Discussion and vote on letter/resolution to Request to restore $6 million in DC budget for WMATA bus service fixes in all 8 wards. BACKGROUND: Due to a last-minute action by the Mayor, $6 million is being stripped from WMATA’s budget that was intended to implement some fixes to the Better Bus network in DC, including weekend fast bus service on H Street, overnight service on Connecticut Avenue and on Rhode Island Avenue and to Adams Morgan, more frequent service on 14th St NW and on MLK Ave SE, evening and weekend service to Navy Yard, all-day service on U/Florida to RFK and Capitol Heights, and more.
After WMATA launched Better Bus in summer 2025, WMATA started keeping track of community feedback requesting future adjustments. You may have sent them items that are part of this. This wishlist later grew to include filling gaps from the discontinuance of the Circulator and the H Street Streetcar. Earlier this year, WMATA prepared a draft budget but got pushback from Virginia and Maryland to find more savings. WMATA did so, and the effect was to save money for DC too. DC’s representatives on the WMATA Board sought to use some of the savings ($6 million out of $9 million) to implement bus service fixes from the wishlist.
