Cathedral Commons (aka the “New Giant”)

The Cathedral Commons project centers on the development of a new Giant grocery store in the area bounded by Idaho Avenue, Newark and Macomb Streets and Wisconsin Avenue. In addition to the new 56,000 sq. ft. grocery store, the project includes other retail, office space and residences on both sides of Newark Street. The project is being developed in partnership between Stop&Shop/Giant and StreetWorks. In December 2011 the Bozutto Group was announced as the development partner (WP Article).

Included in the Partnership is the opportunity for residents to be able to park overnight in the Cathedral Commons parking structure.  The opportunity is awarded via the lottery system and is good for a six-month parking pass.  The lottery is held in early March and early September.  To be included in the bi-annual lottery drawing for overnight parking (available only to residents within the vicinity of Cathedral Commons), please email cathedralcommons@bozzuto.com with your name, email address, and residential street address.  Current lottery winners are eligible for subsequent drawings, provided the application is renewed.

Construction Event:

July 2014:  In response to complaints about nighttime utility construction on Wisconsin Ave., DDOT approved daytime construction permits last Thursday and the utility work is underway between the hours of 9:30AM and 3:30PM, Monday through Friday.  Saturday hours are 8AM to 7PM.  There are lane closures associated with this work.  Since schools are not in session and many commuters and residents are on vacation for periods of the summer months, it is hoped that the affect on traffic during non-rush hours will be less than it might be during other parts of the year. If you are effected by the lane closures on Wisconsin Ave. between Idaho and Macomb, please be patient, don’t cut through on neighborhood streets, and provide yourself with more travel time.  The utility work will benefit the community and will end in a few months. ANC 3C is grateful for the help from CM Cheh’s office, and the cooperation from DDOT and Bozzuto Development in resolving this matter so quickly.

Concerned neighbors with immediate construction issues can contact their Commissioner and email jkayce@bozzuto.com and  jbell@bozzuto.com.
