250 Trees Will be Donated and Planted at D.C. Homes
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 27, 2017) – For National Arbor Day, Pepco is offering 250 trees on a first-come, first-served basis to District of Columbia homeowners through our “Right Tree, Right Place” tree planting program. This program is offered in partnership with Casey Trees, a D.C.-based nonprofit committed to restoring and protecting the tree canopy of the nation’s capital.
“We value our longstanding partnership with Casey Trees on the Right Tree, Right Place program,” said Donna Cooper, Pepco region president. “This program helps to beautify our communities and enhance the environment by providing education and awareness on planting the right tree in the right place. We are pleased to offer a program to our valued customers that extends important aesthetic and environmental benefits, while also promoting safety and service reliability.”
D.C. residents can request up to two trees by calling Casey Trees at 202-833-4010 and asking for an on-site consultation for the Right Tree, Right Place Program. Casey Trees will send out a professional arborist to evaluate the landscape and recommend a suitable tree for the area. Once the appropriate tree is chosen, Casey Trees will come to the home and plant the tree. For the consultation and planting valued at $400, a co-payment of $50 per tree payable to Casey Trees, is required prior to planting.
Trees can reduce residential cooling costs by as much as 20 percent, while in the winter months trees reduce wind speeds and infiltration of cold air into homes, thereby reducing heating costs. For more program details, please read www.pepco.com/SafetyCommunity/Safety/Pages/PlantingTrees.aspx#.
